I create curated brands and websites for entrepreneurs and small business owners.
I’m Whitney Maurer, a brand and web designer and mom of three. I started Whitney Hays Design in 2010.
After graduating from Williams College with a degree in Art History, I was unsure about what exactly I wanted to do for my career. I ended up taking a job at The Abernathy MacGregor Group, a corporate, strategic and financial communications consultancy, now H Advisors/Abernathy. I worked with clients in all sorts of industries and over the years I became more and more drawn to visual communications. I gained invaluable business experience in four years at Abernathy, but ultimately decided that I wanted to be a graphic designer. In 2008, I went back to school and got a degree in Graphic Design at Parsons the New School for Design.
After I graduated, I took a position at Patricia Spencer Design in New York City, now PSD, where I had an amazing experience working with clients in the hospitality industry, including world-renowned chefs Daniel Boulud and Todd English. There I worked on branding elements for restaurants and hotels and worked on logos, menu design, packaging design, signage design and started working on website design. There, I built my first websites from scratch.
At PSD, I learned so much about branding and how to curate a beautiful, stand out brand that is consistent across multiple avenues. While at PSD, I started my own freelancing business, Whitney Hays Design, and worked with clients on the side. After having my first child, I decided to leave PSD and focus on my freelance business.
When my oldest child was almost two, we moved to Darien, Connecticut. Since then I’ve had two more kids and have loved living in Darien for the past ten years. Over the years, I’ve been lucky to work with some amazing clients and friends in Darien, greater Fairfield and Westchester Counties, New York City and in places all over the country.
